Downtown Dining .....   (revisited 4/04)
 

Without leaving the corner of 7th and F St is a delightful new additional to the downtown dining scene (new) Rosa Mexicano  (575 7th St NW) Great casual dining in a restaurant with pink walls  and Great  guacamole and margaritas and traditional Mexican favorites, such as quesadillas, tacos and enchiladas. Open for lunch and dinner... pricey  dinner $75 couple    

About midway between F and E streets on 7th street we find the District Chop House & Brewery (509 7th St NW DC 202/347-3434)   Steaks,  chops, tasty seafood,  salads and brick-oven pizzas with a full service scotch and bourbon, hand-carved billiard tables and comfortable cigar lounge equipped with armchairs and sofas.  All the things you expect from a steakhouse casual dining at affordable prices....  $20 up  

'Good but what's next'? Only a short walk away that question gets answered. On the Southwest corner at 7th and E street stand Jaleo almost beneath the awning for The Shakespeare Theater next door. Just before you enter  Jaleo   sidewalk seating can be seen down E street. Don fret that's our next stop.

Jaleo  (480 7th St NW DC)  Great place for a pre-theater meal. Spanish, Tapas offering 50 bite-sized appetizers, hot and cold, and spicy.......

And right next door on E Street we find the

Austin Grille (750 E St NW DC) Terrific chilli the staple for a tex-mex restaurant passes the grade receiving an A pluses. If you love side walk seating and tex-mex, This might just be the place.   $8 - $15 Want to see more

Well let get back to 7th Street. And peaking of the theater,  we've arrived at  The Shakespeare Theater (450 7th St NW) - Now Playing 'Richard III' and it run until May !8th. 

Moving down 7th  toward Penn we come upon  Olson's Books (418 7th St NW DC) and just down the block across  the street stands the Zenith Art Gallery (413 7th St NW DC) On the corner sits

  Andale (410 7th St NW DC)  Spicy is the word but that just as it should be, were Authentic Mexican Cuisine here. The selections are rich and flavor able. On Mondays every bottle of wine on the wine list is half price     $10 - $20    Take a closer look

Okay, that two blocks four restaurants, a theater and an art gallery and we've only just begun.

701 Restaurant Caviar and Vodka Lounge (701 Pennsylvania Ave NW DC 202/393-0701) Fine dining, Mo Bar and 701's Caviar Lounge. Nice intimate setting for a romantic dinner. There's out door seating overlooking the fountains of the Navy Memorial. they feature a pre-theater menu, plus live jazz nightly.....  $20 up
